Welcome to the Academy for Professional Modelling from SparxSystems Central Europe

A tool is only as good as the craftsman who uses it. Play your trump card in your daily business: With in-depth knowledge and many years of experience, you effectively put data into context. As a result, you will learn to understand the structures and processes and ultimately derive further steps as well as decisions from them. That’s modelling. Our Sparx experts help you build this knowledge.

Training Philosophy

As a modern, customer-oriented academy for professional modelling, we place the highest value on the satisfaction of our training participants.

Professionalism, competence and reliability have been the foundation of our training philosophy for over 20 years.

Our most important task is to provide our participants with optimal support for their projects. With our Enterprise Architect, we have the right tool for this.

WHO ARE WE?

Since 1998 Sparx Systems has been developing the Sparx Product Suite, currently consisting of Enterprise Architect, Prolaborate and Pro Cloud Server. In order to provide the best service around Enterprise Architect to the numerous customers in their language and time zone, SparxSystems Central Europe (CE) was founded in 2003. SparxSystems CE is a business unit of the Lieber.Group.

The company supports the German-speaking and Central European region with license acquisition, training and consulting.

WHAT IS OUR GOAL?

The primary goal of all our trainings is empowerment. This enables the user to become connected and to use the full potential of Enterprise Architect in a simple and fun way, as well as to create added value for your company through modelling.

WHO IS OUR TARGET GROUP?

Our courses are aimed at anyone who wants to put modelling into practice using Enterprise Architect and simplify the benefits of object-oriented programming and design through analysis, design and development.

Participants are, for example, project managers, system designers, developers, IT consultants and trainers, managers of software and IT departments, etc.

TRAINING CONCEPT

SPARXSYSTEMS ECOSYSTEM

The development of modern software and systems supported by software is becoming more and more costly and complex. Therefore, more and more companies decide to revise their development process. The use of graphical modelling languages and appropriate tools can help to get the complexity under control.

However, there are a few basic things to keep in mind when taking this step in order to really exploit the benefits of models. We impart this know-how in our training courses.

The SparxSystems Central Europe ecosystem also consists of tools that can be integrated and extended. We support you in integrating model-based approaches into your existing tool landscape in order to provide different stakeholders (such as requirements engineer, user, system architect, software architect, developer, data engineer, CEO, etc.) with the information relevant to them.

OUR APPROACH

Modelling involves the use of at least one tool (Enterprise Architect) and various modelling approaches, in addition to graphical modelling languages.

Our trainings will not only enable you to use the Enterprise Architect modelling platform professionally and to use the selected modelling language, but also to apply the course content practically in your field of expertise. You will then be able to contextualize enough data in a model to read from it the information you need and answer your questions.

With the best practices we have gathered in many training days, coaching and consulting, we pass on our longtime experience and support you in achieving your desired goal effectively and efficiently.

In the training, we design our own training unit consisting of theory, practical implementation in the Enterprise Architect tool and application using concrete examples.

We offer the appropriate training approach for each experience level to bring your team to the next level and to answer open questions.

TRAINING PACKAGE

Our training package consists of:

  • Learning platform
  • Face-to-face training (online or on-site)

Before, during and after the classroom training, course participants have access to our learning platform Moodle with the learning materials used in the classroom training as well as learning examples and exercises.

Parts of this learning content can also be consumed before the classroom training. This enables course participants to follow along better during the classroom training, consolidate what they have learned, and ask specific questions. After completing the face-to-face training, the course participants thus have a higher learning success.

DIMENSIONS OF MODELLING

When we talk about modelling, we are talking about 4 dimensions. They all need to mesh like gears in order to work. We always cover all of them in the appropriate weighting in our trainings:

  • Modelling language: Enterprise Architect handles a variety of different modelling languages, the most popular being UML, SysML and BPMN. Each language has its own syntax and semantics that need to be learned.
  • Tool: Enterprise Architect allows you to create models in different languages. Once you understand the design and structure of the tool, working with it quickly becomes very easy.
  • Modelling approach: In order to create a model efficiently, one must follow certain company guidelines. In addition, one should follow a defined structure and determine the beginning and end of the modelling process.
  • Experience: Experience is gained by working on a topic. It is much more efficient to learn not only from your own mistakes, but also from the mistakes of others. We are therefore talking about best practice solutions.

STRUCTURE OF THE TRAININGS

We offer a wide range of basic and advanced courses. The basic course focuses on the combination of tool and language. We then offer a wide range of in-depth or advanced training courses that can be tailored to individual requirements, experience levels and specifications.

Our learning paths each consist of:

  • Basic: The knowledge of the basic operation of Enterprise Architect – regardless of the modelling language – forms the foundation of all modelling. In addition, the focus of the basic training is on a modelling language and its application in the tool.
  • Advanced: Our advanced trainings focus on the modelling approach and provide you with solution patterns for concrete problems of different stakeholders. Experiences as well as best practices are increasingly in the foreground.

In addition, the focus of company trainings can be individually adapted to the modelling language or to the operation of the tool.

4 steps to your training:

Are you interested in professional modelling or would you like to deepen your knowledge of it? Then our academy is the right place for you.

Step 1 INFORMATION: Select your desired training or your preferred topic blocks from our range of courses.

Step 2 CONTACT: Contact us by e-mail with information about your desired topic, the possible number of participants and the possible implementation period.

Step 3 QUALIFICATION INTERVIEW: Let us advise you and together we will create your desired training agenda.

Step 4 BOOK: Check our offer for your customized training and order directly from us.

TYPES OF TRAINING

We offer our trainings in 4 different forms:

eLearning
Some of our content can also be delivered as pure eLearning. This means that they can be consumed independently of time and place via our learning platform (Moodle).

Our eLearning content consists of theoretical parts and practical examples. They are multimedia-based, containing short video and audio sequences as well as texts to appeal to all senses and every learning type. The chapters are additionally supported by quizzes to offer the participant not only a repetition of what has been learned, but also a learning check.

If all theoretical chapters including quizzes have been completed, the participant receives a certificate of participation at the end.

Public Training
These 3-day trainings have a fixed agenda and are aimed at individual participants. Thus, the group is usually composed of different companies and departments with initial Enterprise Architect experience.

These trainings are offered on an ongoing basis and on different topics. If there are more than 5 participants from a company, we recommend a separate training, which can be adapted to the needs.

Company Training
Our training content can also be offered exclusively for your company or team. You can take our existing agendas or use them as a basis to select predefined modules and put them together individually.

We also support you in finding the right modules at the appropriate experience level.

Do you have additional specific requirements? Feel free to let us know your additional requirements and we will adapt our training content to the needs of your company.

Workshop
Even in the same industry, models can differ. Therefore, we support you in a workshop by means of coaching to develop the appropriate modelling approach for you with the necessary configurations and extensions and to implement it with Enterprise Architect.

How do we proceed? In a workshop, we agree on a question as well as a goal and work out a solution path together.

You can access our trainings through 2 different channels:

Online
In online training, the participants and the trainer meet virtually, otherwise the course runs like on-site training. You can find out which technical requirements need to be taken into account here.

On-site
We come to you (Company Training or Workshop) or you come to one of our training locations. Which requirements have to be considered for trainings at your premises can be found here.

TRAINING SCHEDULE

Training times are usually daily from 09:00 to 16:00. In the mornings and afternoons, the training day is broken up by short breaks and a one-hour lunch break. Each training day consists of eight training units of 45 minutes each.

For Company Trainings and Workshops, we are happy to adapt the training schedule to your individual wishes.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

HARDWARE

For training at your premises, all that is required is a projector for the instructor (minimum resolution 1280 x 1024 pixels) and a flipchart. Each participant also needs their own laptop or PC with an operational installation of Enterprise Architect in the agreed version.

For online training, a second screen for the speaker’s presentation is strongly recommended. A headset or speaker and microphone are required. The use of a webcam is recommended so that the trainer can better respond to all participants. A stable internet connection is also essential.

SOFTWARE

Our preferred tools for online trainings are Zoom and MS Teams. For public trainings we always use Zoom. For Company Trainings other tools can be used upon agreement, if our trainer can be set up as moderator or host.

If we are the host, we need the email addresses of all training participants before the training.

ENTERPRISE ARCHITECT VERSION

All participants need the same version and build number of Enterprise Architect. (The build number is displayed under Start > Help > About EA).
The trainer will decide which version or build is to be used for the training. In public training courses, the current version or build is always used.

ENTERPRISE ARCHITECT LICENSE

You are welcome to use the trial version of Enterprise Architect for the training, if you do not yet have a license. You can download the current trial version here free of charge. If required, we can also provide a trial version of older versions, an extension of the trial license or temporary floating licenses for your full version.

Here are instructions on how to install two different versions of Enterprise Architect on your computer.

LEARNING PLATFORM

Our trainings – Public as well as Company – are supported by the learning platform Moodle. There, course participants have the opportunity to acquire basic technical knowledge step by step in order to gain an understanding of the fundamental modelling concepts.

By means of exercises and quizzes, what has been learned can be practically applied and reviewed in order to understand and perform configurations and settings.
